Neurodiversity is an area of quickly growing interest among educators, and as a living discourse, the available information on this important topic can vary widely across sources. This recorded webinar seeks to provide a foundation of shared understanding, knowledge, and vocabulary in the area of neurodiversity for educators, administrators, and other professionals whose work impacts students from PreK – 12 and beyond. Participants will learn about the Neurodiversity Movement, Neurodiversity Paradigm, key considerations for language choices, different models of neurodiversity affirming practices, and more. Through the scenarios and discussion questions presented throughout the recording, and by engaging with the facilitation guide, participants will:
- Build a shared understanding and foundation for collaboration in implementing increasingly neurodiversity affirming practices and applying workshop content.
- Learn key history, terms, and concepts around neurodiversity, models of disability, and affirming practices
- Consider and gain clarity and context surrounding some of the controversies within the Neurodiversity Movement, including the differing and passionately held beliefs about Applied Behavior Analysis
- Reflect on the basis and value of differences across professional roles and orientations, and consider how balancing these varied perspectives can serve students in neurodiverse classrooms
