This workshop reimagines traditional behavior support practices to incorporate information and tools from other professional fields, and draws upon the presenter’s expertise in communication. How can we help neurodivergent students to succeed in an authentic way?
Participants Will:
- Consider how sensory differences and self-regulation capacities impact the behavior of individual students and determine strategies to support these areas
- Identify antecedent strategies—practices we can use proactively rather than just reacting—from the field of applied behavior analysis.
- Evaluate strategies for alignment with the values of the Neurodiversity Paradigm
- Learn key components of environments that support self-regulation skills and reflect on your use of them in your current practice
- Gain an understanding of autistic meltdowns, and how they are distinctive from other interfering behaviors
This workshop is also part of a 3-credit graduate course. Register for the graduate course instead.
